Diabetic Eye Disease: Discussion & Implementation of Protocols in Everyday Practice
Diabetes continues to be one of the leading causes of preventable vision loss in the United States, placing optometrists on the front lines of detection, management, and long-term care. This course provides a practical, step-by-step framework for developing and implementing a standardized diabetic eye care protocol within an optometric practice. Participants will learn how to design evidence-based workflows for screening, diagnosis, risk stratification, documentation, patient education, follow-up scheduling, and referral coordination. Emphasis will be placed on integrating current clinical guidelines, optimizing use of diagnostic technologies (ERG, fundus photography and OCT-A), improving communication with primary care providers and endocrinologists, and enhancing patient compliance. This course will also include real-world case examples and how the patient was managed.

4:45 PM – 5:00 PM – Stretch Break

Course 2:
5:00 PM – 6:00 PM CE
1 hr. NJSBO TPA Credit – NJSBO # PENDING / CE BROKER # PENDING
Frances Bynum, OD, ABO Diplomate
Applying ERG in the Real World: Practical Cases for the Optometrist
Understanding electroretinography (ERG) and how photoreceptors, inner retinal cells and the ganglion cells create electrical waves. How amplitude and timing can help detect, monitor and manage retinal diseases. Practical cases where ERGs help aid in diagnosis and/or management. Discussion of Diabetic Retinal Score to monitor diabetes. Billing and Coding. Develop a system to implement ERG technology in optometry practices.

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Social/Mixer – Sponsored by Walman Optical
Join us for a casual mix-and-mingle with colleagues and friends in optometry. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, light refreshments, and great conversation. Space is limited to the first 50 attendees, so be sure to pre-register to reserve your spot.

Binocular Vision Refresher for the Primary Care OD
This focused refresher course is designed to help the primary care optometrist confidently diagnose and manage binocular vision disorders that can often be overlooked in routine eye exams. Many patients present with 20/20 visual acuity, yet still experience symptoms related to underlying accommodative, vergence, and oculomotor dysfunctions that impact reading, learning, and activities of daily living. Case examples will provide attendees with clinical decision-making skills needed to better serve patients with binocular vision symptoms.

Course 5:
3:15 PM – 4:05 PM CE
1 hr. NJSBO Regular Credit PENDING/ NJSBO # PENDING/ CE BROKER # PENDING
Sari Schwartz, OD, FAAO, FOVDRA
Visual Dysfunctions in Patients with ADHD and Learning Disorders/ The Optometrists Role in ADHD and Learning Disorders
This course explores the critical relationship between visual dysfunctions in conditions such as ADHD and learning disorders, with a focus on the optometrist’s role in identification, differentiation, treatment and management. Participants will have a clear understanding of ADHD and learning-related vision problems, followed by an in-depth discussion of the significant overlap between visual deficits and attentional or academic challenges. Special emphasis will be placed on how visual symptoms-such as poor sustained attention and avoidance of near tasks-can mimic or exacerbate behaviors commonly attributed to ADHD, as well as why visual function is often overlooked in multidisciplinary evaluations. The course will highlight practical clinical evaluation strategies and appropriate screening tools for assessing binocular, oculomotor, and accommodative function in a primary care setting.
