Peptides: The Powers and the Perils
This course reviews endogenous peptides, including their physiological roles. Exogenous peptides, as drugs, foods, and supplements are described, to outline the many uses for these compounds. Common metabolic diseases, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus (Type 2) and obesity are reviewed, and how exogenous peptides have revolutionized the management of these metabolic conditions. Drug interactions, adverse effects, and contraindications will be discussed. Lastly, exogenous peptides in the beauty, wellness, and fitness arenas were examined.  This course will provide a framework for the OD who is considering use of peptides in themselves and in their practices.

Meet the Speakers 


Kimberly Friedman, OD, FAAO
Dr. Friedman is a founding partner of Moorestown Eye Associates, a private group optometric practice in New Jersey, and the Director of The Dry Eye Clinic at Moorestown Eye. She is a past president of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and a past Clinical Director for the National Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program.

She currently serves as a Chief Medical Education Officer for Eyepromise. She has served on numerous national advisory boards and has appeared in numerous television segments and print media throughout the United States including “The Rachael Ray Show”. She remains one of the only optometrists in the nation to have had a recurring monthly television segment in major market news programming.

Dr. Friedman has received many awards including the NJSOP E.C. Nurock lifetime achievement award, OD of the Year, and Young OD of the Year Awards. Additional awards include The Robert DeBaun Humanitarian Award, VSP’s People First Award, and the Special Olympics National Recognition Award. She lectures nationally and internationally and writes recurring columns for various eye care related publications.

Tracy Offerdahl, PharmD, RPh, FAAO
Dr. Offerdahl has been a pharmacist and a pharmacology and therapeutics professor for over 30 years. She is currently on faculty at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Drexel University,  where she is the course director and instructor for the pharmacology courses. She is a practicing clinical pharmacist, and she is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry.

Ihuoma Alozie-Uddoh, MD
Dr. Alozie-Uddoh is a board-certified ophthalmologist, eye surgeon, and founder of Wakefield Eye, Face, and Body. With fellowship training in glaucoma and specialized certification in noninvasive aesthetic procedures, she offers expert care for both eye health and cosmetic treatments. Dr. Alozie-Uddoh’s eye clinical focus is in glaucoma, cataract, diseases of the anterior segment and diabetic eye disease treatment. In addition to performing standard glaucoma and cataract surgery, She offers minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery and advanced technology premium intraocular lens implants. For diabetic eye disease, she offers advanced diagnostic technology as well as laser treatment and collaborates with retina surgeons when necessary.

Dr. Alozie-Uddoh’s deep understanding of facial anatomy makes her a top choice for neurotoxin injections, facial fillers, and advanced laser skin rejuvenation and resurfacing techniques. She has been serving the Northern Bronx and Westchester communities for over 20 years, combining medical precision with a warm, patient-centered approach. At Wakefield Eye, Face, and Body, she ensures every patient receives personalized care, optimal results, and a truly elevated experience.  After receiving her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from City College of New York in 1991, Dr. Alozie-Uddoh pursued her medical education at State University of New York, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1995. She interned at Hospital of Saint Raphael, Yale University School of Medicine before completing her ophthalmology residency at Howard University Hospital in 2000. In 2001, she completed her glaucoma fellowship at Tufts University-New England Eye Center/Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.  Dr. Alozie-Uddoh’s research centers on glaucoma. She has shared her work through publication in peer-reviewed journals and abstracts. She has also performed international research in West Africa (Ivory Coast and Nigeria) and India. She is a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a member of the American Medical Spa Association.
